In Paris, an association of the Sokol sports movement was founded in 1892. In 1902, French compatriots received a new flag from major figures of the Czech Sokol Community during their visit to Prague. Designed by Mrs Scheiner and Mrs Klecand a, this symbol played a significant role in the events in the summer of 1914, when the same flag with the Czech Lion was used by future soldiers of the famous “Nazdar” company as they marched from Palais Royal to the Porte d'Ivry railway station in Paris on 23 August, from where their journey continued to the city of Bayonne, in the South of France. The Parisian Sokol members used the flag on festive occasions until 1932, when they got, on the occasion of the 9th Gymnastic Festival called Slet, a new flag from President T. G. Masaryk; the predecessor of this new banner was stored, as a valuable relic, at the Resistance Memorial.
