The battle flail belongs among those weapons that were created by improvisation in case of emergency. It is an agricultural tool for threshing grain, adapted for combat use with minimal resources and effort. The wooden striking head was reinforced with twisted iron rods and these were connected by sleeves into which nails or iron spikes were fixed. The origin of this weapon dates back to the Roman period. In the 15th century, the battle flail was a typical staffing weapon of the Hussite infantry. It was still in use during the peasant uprisings in the 17th and 18th centuries.
