Iraqi compass found by a member of the Czechoslovak Army during the 1991 Gulf War in an abandoned artillery position of the Iraqi army. Interestingly, the compass was made in the UK. Between 1990 and 1991, the Czechoslovak Independent Anti-Chemical Battalion joined the coalition ranks in the Gulf War in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The unit, which consisted of a total of 200 soldiers, provided chemical and radiation reconnaissance for the Allies. The Czechoslovaks, then still members of the Warsaw Pact, contributed to the liberation of Kuwait, which had previously been occupied by Iraqi troops.
