Trained military dogs were also part of the Provincial Reconstruction Team of the Czech Armed Forces in Logar in the ISAF operation. On 30 September 2012, a 107mm rocket hit the kennel area at Forward Operation Base (FOB) Shank in Logar Province, Afghanistan. The attack caused severe injuries to Athos, a service dog from the veterinary base in Grabštejn. After initial treatment, the four-legged member of the Provincial Reconstruction Team was transported to Bagram Air Base where he underwent several complicated surgeries. Athos later returned for convalescence to the Czech Republic via Ramstein, Germany. In early 2013, Athos received an official award from the Minister of Defence.
