In August 1968, the occupying Warsaw Pact troops encountered Czechoslovak soldiers who refused to allow the intervention units into their barracks and facilities. The most famous case was the 7th Aitborne Regiment in Holešov. The paratroopers refused to let Soviet tankers into the barracks and, together with other intelligence units, broadcast free radio.
In protest against the occupation, some soldiers across the army began wearing modified belt buckles and badges, with some expressing their dissent by simply turning the star on their belt.
