The designs developed by the Military Technical Institute also included the well-known RF-11 radio unit. One of its predecessors was the prototype RC-473, codenamed “PANEK II”, based conceptually on the German Kl.Fu.Spr.d “Dorette” unit and the US BC-611 walkie-talkie. The unit was intended primarily for facilitating communications within small units on the move. The miniature unit weighed only 1.5 kg and it had a range of 1.5 km. The whole set and the transport box weighed 8 kg. The sample unit was approved by the Technical Commission in June 1948.
